SCRIPTURE: John 21:1, 3-9; 12-19 NLT

“Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee.[a] This is how it happened… 3 Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So, they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. 4 At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was. 5 He called out, “Fellows,[c] have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. 6 Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So, they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. 7 Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. 8 The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards[d] from shore. 9 When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread… 12 “Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. 14 This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead. 15 After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?[e]” “Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him. 16 Jesus repeated the question: “Simon son of John, do you love me?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter said, “you know I love you.” “Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said. 17 A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep. 18 “I tell you the truth, when you were young, you were able to do as you liked; you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others[f] will dress you and take you where you don’t want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to let him know by what kind of death he would glorify God. Then Jesus told him, “Follow me.”

**1) THE PULL OF THE PAST

1）过去的拉扯**

• The pull of his past guilt, shame, and disappointment, was weighing him down and trying to steal his purpose and calling (Matt. 26:33-35; Mark 14:66-72).
• 他过去的罪疚、羞耻和失望在拉扯着他，使他沉重不堪，试图夺走他的使命与呼召（马太福音 26:33–35；马可福音 14:66–72）。
• Like Peter, we’ve denied Jesus plenty of times. Whether it be in word or in deed we have distanced ourselves from his love and teachings.

We have missed the mark with our actions, we have denied him through prayerlessness, apathy for the poor, and clung to the words of others instead of His. (R. Villodas)

• The enemy of your soul will try and convince you that your past disqualifies you, and that your failure is greater than God’s grace!

**2) MISSING JESUS

• When we let the pull of the past direct our lives, it causes us to miss seeing what Jesus is doing right in front of us.

• Even when your past has pulled you back in, Jesus is still present, still calling, and still reminding us of who He is, and Who we are in Him.

• “4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” 5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” 6 And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!” – Luke 5:4-6

• Jesus longs for us to make a change/shift, and for us to walk in the abundance and hope of the resurrected life.
• 耶稣渴望我们改变、转向，并行在复活生命的丰盛与盼望中。
• With Jesus we can have hope that our failures and frustrations can end in fruitfulness and full nets!
• 有了耶稣，我们可以怀抱盼望，相信我们的失败和挫折终将转变为丰盛与满满的收获！

**3) A RESTORED HOPE

3）被恢复的盼望**

• “Do you love me?” - 3 questions for 3 denials! He wasn’t rubbing it in, He was healing the wound. - Peter had to deal with the past to move into His purpose (v. 15-19).
• “你爱我吗？”——三次提问对应三次否认！祂不是在揭伤疤，而是在医治创伤。——彼得必须处理过去，才能进入他的呼召（第15–19节）。
• Jesus called Him forward into restored purpose and responsibility and He wants to do the same with you and me.
• 耶稣呼召他进入被恢复的使命与责任，祂也想为你我做同样的事。
• If you’ve gone back to “fishing” - back to the familiar, the safe, the old life, the old habits, the shame and guilt —Jesus is calling you forward again into Hope; Into your calling and purpose!
• 如果你已经回到了“打鱼”——回到了熟悉的、安全的、旧有的生活，旧习惯，羞愧与自责中——耶稣正在再次呼唤你，进入盼望；进入你的呼召与使命！
